Sometimes, you have to ignore the commercials and lifestyle bloggers when they say certain “healthy” foods are actually good for you. I’m not saying the media is lying to you, but that doesn’t mean you should believe everything you read (or hear.)
Some foods might be low in calories, but still high in sugar; some foods might be vegan, but still high in carbs. You see? Make sure to do your research before you take something as a fact; especially when it comes to the food you’re putting inside your body.

While oatmeal grains are a healthy breakfast, the same can’t be said about instant oatmeal. Instant oatmeal typically contains cinnamon, maple brown sugar, and other sugars that rack up the calories, (and sodium) in each serving.
When shopping for oatmeal, ignore the microwavable options and buy steel-cut or rolled oats instead. Those are healthier options! And you can still add your own flavoring, just make sure you’re aware of how much sugar you’re actually adding.
